At day 3 (CCCamp2019) we had a microgrid meeting about the survey we want people at camp to fill in.
We talked about what questions we should ask and we talked some more about how a grid should look like.
Survey questions we came up with (add more if you like):
-Are you aware how much power you use?
-What do you use it for, apart from obvious things like your phone, laptop, lights?
-Would you like to have USB-C compatible negotiating power delivery system?
-Are you already using solar and how much of your usage is covered by the setup?
-Want stats of your AC/DC power use and will it help you to minimize power use?
-Do you think the microgrid project is a good idea, and why?
-Do you want to participate? If yes, (how) can we contact you before next camps to get things running?
-Does your laptop has a USB-C charge port that can deliver power? And are you willing to share some if needed?
-What kind of power ports would you like to have for DC?
Thoughts about the grid / other things, of which some not so serious, filter later:
48V distribution boxes, speakon connections, USB-C outlets 5V up to 20V.
Renegotiation (TI chip?) for smart power distribution
Storing energy, stacking concrete, sneaker power. Electric vehicles as battery backup.
Electric cars as buffers? A lot of Tesla's around.
230V AC system? Bigger risk of grid collapse / sync problems.
Questions for Power Team at camp:
-What do you think?
-What are the best options for a grid at camps from your perspective
-If you have a solar setup, would you connect that to the microgrid?
-What about running a 300V DC ring through camp with bi-directional 48V converters for connecting seperate microgrids? (TDK Lambda has nice 2.5kW 19" units, maybe they have a stack of those we could borrow or rent for next events.)
TODO before tomorrow 16:00 (Please help out):
-Think about these questions, rephrase, add, modify, etc.
-Wiki survey implementation? Error, could not find a maintained survey for MediaWiki...
-Tomorrow meeting 16:00
-Talk to power team people, ask questions
